News: Construction Works Cause Concern For Bandar Damai Perdana 2 Residents

Aug 14, 2019

Residents at Bandar Damai Perdana Two in Kajang are anxiously waiting the Malaysian Public Works Institute’s (Ikram) report on the determination of who is responsible for the cracks suffered by around 25 houses within the neighbourhood.

They claim that a housing project in Alam Damai as well as the tunnel construction for the Langat 2 water treatment facility are causing the damage.

Bandar Damai Perdana Two Residents Association secretary Christina Khoo said residents feared for their safety within their homes, reported The Star.

“Hairline cracks have progressed to become deep fissures over the last few months. Many residents are worried their houses will collapse on them,” she said.

Resident Hai Len Fong lamented that she had to deal with gradually worsening cracks on her home’s walls over the past few months.

Meanwhile, Balakong assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said she has been consistently contacting the Kuala Lumpur mayor’s office every week to see if Ikram’s report is ready.

“The Ikram report should identify whether proper procedures were followed during ongoing construction work at both project sites,” she said.

After visiting the area twice, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan noted that even though it is at Selangor’s border, the projects in question are in Kuala Lumpur. Hence, Kuala Lumpur City Hall will study the matter.

He also asked Mineral and Geoscience Department and Ikram to monitor the ongoing construction.
